Quartzite is a metamorphic rock made almost entirely from the mineral quartz (not to be confused with the manufactured man made countertop surface called ‘Quartz’).

Quartzite is harder and more durable than granite, which means it is heat and stain resistant and will not etch from acid, according to The Natural Stone Institute. However, quartzite allows for the heavy veining and smoothness of marble, without the granular look of granite. While many popular Quartzites are grays and whites, this natural stone can be found with a variety of striking designs and colors.
