A distinct characteristic of travertine is the tendency to have voids within the stone.

This is the result of trapped natural gasses within the earth during formation.

These voids can be filled and honed for a smooth surface, and its finishing options include tumbled, beveled or pillowed.

Travertine is available in a range of earth tones, from ivory white to deep rust shades.

Large honed travertine tiles are recommended for interiors, including floor tiles, wall applications and fireplace surrounds, while travertine pavers work best for outdoor applications.

Installing these pavers in intricate arrangements, such as the Versailles pattern, are a popular choice for patios, pools, outdoor kitchens and walkways.
